Fall Fertilizing

We apply anhydrous ammonia, a nitrogen fertilizer, to our corn ground for next year’s crop every fall. We soil sample to determine the rate we need to apply and then a “prescription” is written on a computer and sent to the monitor in the tractor. It varies the rate applied according to the prescription. We also use a nitrogen inhibitor to slow the release of nitrogen in the soil. The anhydrous ammonia is in the tanks behind the applicator and injected 6″ deep in the soil. We apply anhydrous in corn residue, so we can conserve water and residue for next year’s crop.

Harvest 2015 is Finished

Harvest is finished on Jagels Farms.  We will clean equipment so we can do maintenance this winter. Corn stored in grain bins will be hauled to processors this winter and next spring. Check out this video of unloading corn. We will do some field work this fall, weather permitting. Some moisture would be nice, as we are dry, and the ground is hard.
