Fall Fertilizing

We apply anhydrous ammonia, a nitrogen fertilizer, to our corn ground for next year’s crop every fall. We soil sample to determine the rate we need to apply and then a “prescription” is written on a computer and sent to the monitor in the tractor. It varies the rate applied according to the prescription. We also use a nitrogen inhibitor to slow the release of nitrogen in the soil. The anhydrous ammonia is in the tanks behind the applicator and injected 6″ deep in the soil. We apply anhydrous in corn residue, so we can conserve water and residue for next year’s crop.
